Your auto policy consists of several parts. Today we will explain the "optional" Comprehensive component of your policy. Sometimes called "other than collision".
Comprehensive coverage includes animal strikes, vandalism, broken windshields and windows, falling objects, stolen vehicle, fire, hail and floods and other causes of loss.
Most auto policies written today that have comprehensive will include a deductible, or your "out of pocket" amount. The deductibe amount can range anywhere from $100 to $2500. This is the amount that you would pay before the insurance company would pay the balance of the repair amount. So for instance if you had a tree fall on your car and cause $1200 in damage and you had a Comprehensive deductible of $250. You would pay the first $250 and the insurance company would pay the balance of $950.
The most common claim for comprehensive in the midwest are broken windshields and deer or animal strikes. But we see a good number of claims resulting from other causes as well.
This is an optional coverage, it may not be a part of your auto policy. You will need to check with your agent to be sure
